Joney came home in December 2009 after quite a long spell at Fen Bank. He soon settled into his new life and enjoyed his new family, following his ‘brother’ Rhys everywhere. He became a very loyal and loving dog who never put a paw wrong, spending his nights on our bed (as well as much of his days). Although initially a bit feisty with dogs (particularly small yappy ones) he gradually learnt to tolerate them. When we lost Rhys last September he was suddenly deprived of his best mate; however he overcame the sadness and continued to grow into the most beautiful dog.

At the beginning of May I became aware that all was not right; nothing concrete just a feeling he wasn’t happy. He started pacing around a bit at night and staring into space. A visit to our vet later and we were referred to a specialist who diagnosed meningitis. This was being treated with steroids and painkillers, apparently successfully. However in a cruel twist Joney was also losing weight rapidly. Given the other problems, and a rapid downturn last weekend our vet and I concluded that the kindest thing was to help him over rainbow bridge.

Joney was a fantastic dog, a very brave lad and is missed hugely by Katie, Joe and me. Sleep well little friend, and thank you for the last 18 months.

I thank the vets at Two Counties Vets in Doncaster and Pride Veterinary Centre in Derby for all their efforts, skill, compassion and kind words.
