Tony’s Corner
“Tony’s Corner”
Those of you who come along to the Christmas party or other regular Fen Bank events will no doubt know and recognise Wendy Trigg. A hard working member of the “Boston Tea Ladies” and a long-time supporter of the Sanctuary.
Sadly earlier in the year Wendy’s husband Tony passed away. It was the wishes of Wendy and her family that any money collected at the funeral service was given to Fen Bank. A heart-warming gesture at such a difficult time. And we felt it appropriate to mark such generosity with a suitable memorial such as a tree or bench.
However such was the esteem that Tony was held in by not only his family but also friends that the sum passed on to us was way in excess of that needed for a tree so thinking caps on!
It was agreed with Wendy that the patio area should have a full refurbishment and those who knew the area will recall it was a mishmash of slabs, gravel and old bits of concrete. Now it is worthy of a place in “Homes and Gardens”!
It has seen new slabs laid throughout, a cobble feature and some strategically placed gravel areas. The fencing and gate have been replaced, a new door on the Wendy house, a refurbished bench and a rattan table and chairs added. It is now somewhere we are pleased to show our visitors, somewhere they can get to know their new Greyhound and also introduce their existing pet should they have one to the new arrival. All said a fantastic asset to the Sanctuary facilities.
“Tony’s Corner” was officially opened by Wendy on 21st June. And for once the sun shone down on us. Tea was taken and as usual a delicious cake was supplied by Mary and enjoyed by all, including “Peter”. And yes I did notice Wendy sneaking him several pieces of sponge cake. Needless to say they are now friends for life!
Thank you to all who helped in making this happen but a special mention for Debbie who wields a mean paint brush, Pam and John for the wonderful floral displays and of course Steve Clark our long suffering builder who as usual worked his magic.
But of course our final thanks go to Wendy, her family and the friends of Tony. Without their support for what we do at the Sanctuary none of this work would have taken place. Fen Bank Greyhound Sanctuary has shown once again that it’s the Greyhounds that make it special but also it’s the special people that make it work.
